Tropical Resurfacing DIY Face Mask

It’s hard to believe that you can make a super powerful DIY mask out of what really boils down to just a few dollars of leftovers from a fruit salad, but you can. And it’s easy. And effective. This mask only has a few ingredients: papaya, pineapple, and a little bit of coconut oil. Also, if you make a bigger batch like I did a little bit of citric acid will help it preserve in the fridge, much like actual preserves. I used a cup of each ingredient, but if you’re only curious to try the natural exfoliating effects of papaya and pineapple, then start with 2 tablespoons of each. Mash them up and apply to your face for about half an hour to see if you like it. Both of these fruits contain powerful enzymes that not only have strong digestive cleansing benefits, but also skin cleansing benefits in terms of clearing away dead skin cells. Respectively papaya contains Papain, and pineapple has Bromelain, both amazing exfoliators for your skin. You can actually buy both of these enzymes isolated, specifically to use for digestion to help break down other foods that are more difficult to digest, or if you have a slower digestion in general. So the same stuff in both that makes them powerful enough to give digestion a boost, is also powerful enough to clear skin of imperfections, dullness, and dry patches.

Note: Both of these ingredients can be hard on sensitive skin, try a patch test, or reduce the length you use your mask for.

“The vitamin C and lycopene in papaya protect your skin and may help reduce these signs of aging.” - Healthline

“Vitamins A and C function as antioxidants that neutralize free radicals in your skin. Why is this so important? Because free radicals contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which, in turn, leads to the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, and crepey skin. So when you take steps to prevent premature aging, you’re really working to get rid of the free radicals in your skin.” - Sio Beauty

The enzymes (called papain and bromelain) are protein-dissolving. When applied, they naturally work to dissolve and lift away dry, scaly skin that builds up on the outer layer of your face (creating a dull appearance). When the skin debris is removed, it minimizes the appearance of pores and gives off a radiant, natural glow. - HuffPost
